Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 20, 2026

This page explains what personal information we collect when you visit Market North (getmarketnorth.com) or subscribe to email alerts, how we use it, which service providers handle it, and how you can access, correct or delete it. We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Who is responsible

Market North is run independently by an individual based in Ontario, Canada, who is accountable for the personal information the site handles. For any privacy question, request or complaint, email hello@getmarketnorth.com.

When you browse the site

You can use the site without signing up or giving us any information.

Server logs: like nearly every website, the servers that host Market North automatically record each request’s IP address, browser type (user agent), the address requested and the time. We use these only to keep the site running, troubleshoot problems and prevent abuse. Logs are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Visitor statistics: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. According to Cloudflare, it does not use cookies or local storage and does not identify individuals by IP address or browser fingerprint; we see only totals, such as how many times a page was viewed in a day.

Cookies: the site sets a single functional cookie, “NEXT_LOCALE”, to remember the language you chose (English or Chinese). We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

When you subscribe to email alerts

If you subscribe to release alerts, we collect your email address. The sign-up box is never pre-checked, and you will receive a confirmation email; alerts start only after you confirm (double opt-in).

Emails are sent through Buttondown, where your address is stored. To keep a record of your consent, Buttondown stores when you subscribed and confirmed, and the IP address used to confirm. We have not turned on open tracking or click tracking.

Links to this site in our emails carry a source label (such as utm_source) so we can count how many visits come from email. It cannot identify you.

We use your address only to send what you subscribed to. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom that takes effect immediately.

What we don’t do

We do not sell or rent your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone other than our service providers, who may process it only on our instructions and only to provide the services described here.

Service providers and storage outside Canada

We use Google Cloud (hosting and server logs), Cloudflare (visitor statistics), Buttondown (email subscriptions and delivery, together with the sub-processors it lists) and ImprovMX (forwarding mail sent to hello@getmarketnorth.com to the operator).

These providers process and store data in the United States and other countries. Your information may therefore be held outside Canada and may be accessible to courts, law enforcement or national security authorities there under local law.

How long we keep it

Server logs are kept for 30 days. Subscriber email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe; you can also ask us to delete yours completely at any time, and we will do so within 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, withdraw your consent (for example by unsubscribing), or ask us to delete it. Email hello@getmarketnorth.com and we will reply within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: priv.gc.ca.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use your email address, we will tell subscribers by email beforehand.
